If you live near Sunrise Florida and have young daughters, I’d be shocked if you haven’t heard about the grand opening of Barbie’s Dream House Experience at Sawgrass Mills Mall on May 8th. The boys have Legoland, and now the girls — Barbieland.
And it’s pink and glittery. Truly — the 10,700 square foot house required 100 gallons of pink paint and 20 gallons of glitter to construct. Mattel and EMS Entertainment joined together to create this life-size interactive experience that will fulfill every little Barbie fan’s fantasy.
The goal of the team was to replicate Barbie’s Malibu Dream House — not only in Florida, but in Berlin where a 25,000 square foot version of the house also opened in May. The experience lasts between 45 to 90 minutes depending on your child’s attention span, and prices range from $14.95 to $16.95 depending on your child’s age.
A trip to Barbie’s Malibu Dream House goes something like this: A ‘magic’ key ring is given to each visitor which connects them to certain attractions and photo ops during the tour. Some of the rooms you’ll walk through include Barbie’s Living Room, Bedroom, Walk-In Dream Closet, Bathroom, Kitchen, Balcony, and Entertainment Room. Barbie has a fun set of elevators (pink) you can ride and her own private jet-plane (also pink). Some of the interactive features include a ‘cupcake island’ in the kitchen and digitally trying on Barbie’s fashions in her Dream Closet.
Of course, as one exits there is a Barbie Boutique where parents can purchase Barbie memorabilia. With the purchase of a VIP ticket, visitors can access extras like Barbie’s Fashion Runway and Rockstar Stage. Party packages are available for purchase if a group of girls want to have their hair and makeup styled before walking ‘Barbie’s Runway.’
If you’re planning on visiting, just a fair warning: Be prepared for the overwhelming pink glittery magnificence of Barbie’s Dream House.
