The holiday season brings out the best in people, and the best in some people is good enough to set a world record.
The holiday season is a time of wonderment and awe. It’s a time to celebrate miracles of the past, and reflect upon the good things in life. For some people, however, it is also a time to set a world record. They see a Christmas tree and think, “I could find a taller one”, or a menorah and think, “I could find a heavier one”. Here is a collection of five holiday records that have been set recently by people with the ambition to try something wild.
Most Expensive Christmas Tree Decorated: This honor belongs to Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Back in 2010 they decided to deck out a Christmas tree with over $10,000,000 ($11,026,900 to be exact) in jewel encrusted swag. That must have been one dazzling tree.
Largest Menorah: A menorah weighing in at 4000 pounds was unveiled in 2005 in New York City. The menorah, which was based on drawings of the original menorah from the temple of Jerusalem, was 32 feet high and 28 feet wide. However, the candles used did not set any world records.
Most Christmas Trees Chopped Down In 2 Minutes: This honor goes to the female Erin Lavoie who accomplished this feat in Germany back in 2008. She was able to fell 27 trees, which means she chopped down one tree every ~4.44 seconds. That is some handy axe work.
Most Holiday Lights On A Private Residence: The USA won this honor back from Australia in 2013. The Gay family of Dutchess County, NY put up 601,736 lights on their property. They even coordinated the lights and programmed them to put on shows. Mr. Gay reported that the electrical bill alone from the holiday lights punches in at around $400 a season, but he is still happy to do it.
The Tallest Christmas Tree: There is some debate over where the tallest decorated Christmas tree is every year. Rockefeller Center in NYC often claims the honor, but their trees top out at around 100 feet high. A better claim, however, is made by a resort in Idaho that decorates a pine tree every year that tops out at over 160 feet, and makes a solid claim on the tallest Christmas tree, at least the tallest in the USA .
