This condition causes snoring, fragmented sleep, and low blood oxygen levels, leading to drowsiness, poor memory, irritability, and mood problems.<\/p>\n<p>For those with more severe cases, OSA can lead to depression, hypertension, congestive heart failure, heart disease or stroke.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2550\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2550\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/low_income_dental_care_tennessee_memphis.jpg\" alt=\"female patient with open mouth getting dental exam\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/low_income_dental_care_tennessee_memphis.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/low_income_dental_care_tennessee_memphis-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2550\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The most common factors for OSA were obesity, tongue indentations, and large tonsils.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>The link between your tonsils and\u00a0your sleeping habits<\/h2>\n<p>In conducting their study, researchers examined 200 patients in clinics at the University of Dammam College of Dentistry in Saudi Arabia. Patients completed a special screening assessment for OSA.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers also screened patients for known and potential OSA factors, including blood pressure, body weight, neck circumference and the size of their uvula, tonsils and tongue.<\/p>\n<p>The study concluded that 23 percent of the 200 participants were at risk for OSA. While we aren\u2019t able to formally diagnose OSA in our patients, we can screen for it and potentially keep many cases from going undiagnosed.<\/p>\n<p>If you are having trouble sleeping, be sure to mention it to your physician.
