{"id":1472,"date":"2013-10-28T17:33:50","date_gmt":"2013-10-28T17:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mikemalonedds.com\/blog1\/?p=1472"},"modified":"2019-08-08T17:09:57","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T17:09:57","slug":"miley-cyruss-tongue-indicative-of-poor-oral-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/miley-cyruss-tongue-indicative-of-poor-oral-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Miley Cyrus\u2019s Tongue Indicative Of Poor Oral Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have all seen it &#8212; Miley Cyrus\u2019 lovely tongue.\u00a0 She has no shame &#8212; she\u2019ll show it anytime of the day.\u00a0 Except, not only are we tired of seeing it &#8212; but it doesn\u2019t even look right!\u00a0 In fact it looks downright unhealthy to us.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A genius doesn\u2019t need to point out that Miley\u2019s tongue is clearly looking white these days.\u00a0 The DailyMail highlighted a recent photo of Miley (with her tongue out of course) along with the headline \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-2458482\/Put-away-Miley-Cyrus-Is-stars-slimy-tongue-giving-away-health-secrets.html\">Is Star\u2019s Slimy Tongue Giving Away Her Health Secrets<\/a>?\u201d\u00a0 The article headline refers to Cher\u2019s comment regarding the star\u2019s signature tongue pose, in which Cher said to Miley\u2019s tongue as \u2018coated.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s normal for a tongue to have a thin coating, but a thick white coating such as Miley\u2019s can indicate a variety of health problems.\u00a0 Experts\u00a0 such as Dr. Uchenna Okoye, director of Oral B Smile, have weighed in on the mystery of Miley\u2019s unsightly tongue.\u00a0 She says: \u201c&#8221;A thin coating is normal but a thick white coating could indicate candidiasis or oral thrush, which is a fungus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That is just one of many possibilities.\u00a0 According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/symptoms\/white-tongue\/basics\/causes\/sym-20050676\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>\u2019s website, \u2018white tongue\u2019 is a condition which is \u201cthe result of inflammation of the finger-like projections (papillae) on the surface of your tongue. The appearance of a white coating is caused by debris, bacteria and dead cells getting lodged between the inflamed papillae.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/symptoms\/white-tongue\/basics\/causes\/sym-20050676\">Causes include<\/a> dry mouth, smoking, not enough water consumption, and most of all drinking alcohol &#8212; a huge irritant to the mouth.\u00a0 A patchy white tongue is a bit different, not that any of us have examined Miley\u2019s tongue close enough to know the exact pattern of discoloration she has.\u00a0 However it is possible that a \u2018white coating\u2019 on the tongue is associated with other conditions such as drug use, oral thrush (a yeast infection on the tongue), leukoplakia (a sign of precancer) or even syphilis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yikes!\u00a0 We aren\u2019t assuming poor Miley is privately suffering from any of these conditions; however we do believe she should to go see her dentist as soon as possible just to be sure.\u00a0 It is possible however that Miley is suffering from stress, as the tongue can indicate this according to Shabir Daya in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-2458482\/Put-away-Miley-Cyrus-Is-stars-slimy-tongue-giving-away-health-secrets.html\">DailyMail<\/a>.\u00a0 She says that stress \u201cparticularly on-going stress, can cause deeper cracks in the tongue since stress releases inflammatory hormones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Daya also mentions that brushing your teeth three times a day still might not make a difference if you have a dirty tongue.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t brush your tongue as part of your dental cleaning routine, you could be leaving behind food particles, \u201callowing bacteria and fungi to thrive\u201d in.\u00a0 If you\u2019re tongue\u2019s dirty, your teeth will soon become so.\u00a0 Not to mention a dirty tongue often comes along with bad breath.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In general, a white coated tongue is an indicator of poor oral health. \u00a0 So Miley, please take our advice and either visit your dentist, or purchase a tongue cleaner &#8212; you\u2019re a celebrity, for goodness sake!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/about_doc_0211-e12864129926861.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-935\" src=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/about_doc_0211-e12864129926861-146x150.jpg\" alt=\"about_doc_\" width=\"146\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Dr. Mike Malone\u00a0and his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/about_us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">team<\/a>\u00a0practice expert cosmetic dentistry in Lafayette, LA.
