I was hoping to get a dental implant. Is that possible for me or is my condiation a contra-indication?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Aubrey,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Dental-implant-visual-300x300-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1657\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Dental-implant-visual-300x300-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Dental-implant-visual-300x300-2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Diabetes is not a contraindication for dental implants, but you do need to be aware that it is a risk factor. A significant one. You will need careful diagnostics ahead of time. Don&#8217;t skimp on them. Make sure you get a CT scan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also want a dentist who has done a LOT of dental implants successfully. Ask how many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/dental_implants.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dental implant procedures<\/a> they&#8217;ve done and what their percentage of successful cases is. It shouldn&#8217;t be less than 98%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally, the dentist will do the surgery and the placement. However, if they refer you to an oral surgeon, make certain your dentist makes the decisions about the placement and there is close coordination between the two of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cosmetic Considerations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You did not mention where the implant was being placed. If it is on a visible part of your smile, you will want to think long term. If you are considering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog\/category\/teeth-whitening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teeth whitening<\/a>, you will want to do it before you get the porcelain crown that will go on the implant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because, while the color of the crown can be made any color, the color is permanent. If you whiten later, your natural teeth will brighten, but the crown will remain the same color. If you want it to match your teeth, you will have to replace it.
