If your teeth are sensitive, should\nyou be concerned about whether or not cosmetic dentistry is for you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/questions\/cosmetic_dentistry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">cosmetic dental treatment of any kind<\/a>\u2014including <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.camelliadds.com\/blog\/category\/teeth-whitening\/\" target=\"_blank\">teeth whitening<\/a>, dental crowns, or porcelain veneers\u2014your dentist will examine your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy. If you\u2019re experiencing sensitivity in your teeth, the cause of it will be identified first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Causes\nSensitivity?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tooth sensitivity is common. There are several possible\ncauses. The issues should be addressed before you receive cosmetic dentistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Exposed dentin<\/strong> \u2013 Dentin is the tissue beneath the tooth\n     enamel. If the enamel is worn or decayed, sensitivity and pain can occur.\n     And cold food or drinks, even cold air, can increase sensitivity. There\n     are several factors than can cause enamel to wear away. Acidic foods and\n     drinks, brushing your teeth too vigorously, or grinding your teeth can\n     wear down the enamel.<\/li><li><strong>Receding gums<\/strong> \u2013 Gum tissue protects tooth roots. When gums\n     recede, the roots are exposed, and this can cause tooth sensitivity. Gum\n     disease, genetics, or hormonal changes can cause gums to recede.\n     Aggressive teeth brushing can also cause gum recession.<\/li><li><strong>Trauma<\/strong> \u2013 Impact to your face and teeth can cause internal\n     damage to your teeth. A tooth doesn\u2019t have to break or crack for the pulp,\n     or living tissue inside the tooth, to be disturbed. Irritation in a tooth\n     can disturb the nerves and create sensitivity.<\/li><li><strong>Teeth clenching or grinding<\/strong> \u2013 These habits put pressure on\n     your teeth and can cause sensitivity and pain.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can You Receive\nCosmetic Dentistry?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the causes of sensitivity in your teeth have been\nreasonably controlled, you should be able to receive cosmetic dentistry.\nDepending on what type of cosmetic treatment you receive, if left untreated,\nthe sensitivity in your teeth could increase. If genetics are a factor, your\ndentist will take that into consideration and tailor your treatment\naccordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can You Help?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Replace abrasive      toothpaste with toothpaste for sensitive teeth, such as Sensodyne. <\/li><li>Avoid aggressive brushing      and use a soft bristled toothbrush.<\/li><li>Let your dentist know if      you clench or grind your teeth.
